The Facebook Issue

I joined facebook last year and ever since I have been addicted. Everything about facebook is addicting. The millions of groups you can join that strangely relate to your life, all of the random games you can play and the fact that you can take a glimpse into friends lives at the click of a computer mouse. I have several facebook friends that I haven't seen in ages but as a result of facebook I now know exactly what they have been doing during the past couple of weeks. Instead of ringing friends and talking to them, I leave a message on their profile for them. Instead of asking them how their holiday in France was I go to one of their photo albums and have a look at photos posted or messages on their wall. This website has everything you need too, e.g.- an online chat option (like MSN), an inbox where you can send messages and you get constantly updated. What to reconnect with someone you went to primary school with? You just need to simply search their name chances are you will find them as millions use this site. The downsides are however, the hundreds of emails you receive every day, the online cyber bullying and the privacy issues. I find myself getting annoyed if I can't check my profile on a daily basis and angry if my email inbox has too many emails. Instead of doing something others may consider to be more 'worthwhile' I spend hours on end on the computer now. So I have come to the conclusion that I will aim to spend at least 3 days away from facebook, to catch up on some much needed time used to 'get-a-life'!
